GWS provided landscape architecture planning, design and surveying associated with the construction to renovate and improve the existing courtyard. The goals of the project were to provide an aesthetic and functional area that will be used by soldiers and their families as they rehabilitate from wounds and injuries sustained in combat.
The existing courtyard consisted of a series of walkways around a reflection pool and pathways through a garden in a park-like setting. The newly constructed elements of the project include a playground, gazebo, an upper patio with a fireplace and BBQ, two lower patios with a trellised area fireplace, a kitchen and BBQ.
A new walkway system around the garden and reflecting pool was designed and incorporates “appreciation paving stones” purchased by people and businesses wanting to donate to this important program.
